About Austin
150 Miles
The Hope for Austin team would like to thank you for your support during the Hope for Austin walk of 2007 & 2008!
Due to Toby's commitments to the Navy,
a new walk is not scheduled at this time.

We will never stop searching for all the miracles in life. We hope Austin’s story will send a message of hope and love. Each of us has struggles in life and we need to look a little harder and we will all find miracles. Read More >>

What do you think of when you hear the word “cancer”? Most people would say older people in nursing homes have cancer. Well that is what Toby Kufahl is trying to change. CLICK HERE to read about Austin & Toby's journey in 2007. A special thank you to all who participated!

UPDATE from August 12, 2009

It sure has been long since we updated the Hope for Austin website. We are so thrilled to say that Austin remains in complete remission. Cancer is so complicated and impossible to understand why some lives are taken and others are spared. We try not to question, just to be grateful for each healthy day. Austin has spent alot of time singing and is now working on a new CD with 10 songs. We hope to have it ready for Christmas. His music comes from his soul and is therapy for him and us also. We are currently in the process of updating our website so please stop back soon. We ask for your continued prayers and support and thank you for taking the time to stop by.

MARCH 2008-Well, where to begin, so much has happened! Austin has finished his two and a half year treatment plan of chemotherapy, spinal taps and bone marrow aspirations. We know that cancer doesn't disappear with the end of treatment and we will continue our fight, just in a different way. We have so many questions, how do you destroy what you can't even see or understand? We are told it is difficult to come off such a intense course of medicine, to lose the security blanket that all the protocol provides, yes it is scary and yet we are so thankful. We have been given a second chance, and we are making the most of each day! We placed Austin on a long list of natural medicines to help his body repair and feel confident about each one. It has taken so long, but we are finally starting to feel that we may overcome cancer. For now Austin is feeling great and becoming stronger every day. Our family is staying in Hilton Head South Carolina to escape the horrible cold weather in Wisconsin. The sun has been so healing and we can see the benefit every day. Austin and Breanna have started school here and enjoying all the wonderful people. We have spent a lot of time on the beach and in our beautiful home. God is so good and has brought so many wonderful people into our lives. We would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who has been so supportive and helped us along this journey, it continues to be frightening but we know that we are not alone.

Thank You to All!

TO TOBY FROM SUE-

Toby is a bright shining star, on the darkest dreary night,
Ready to give with all of his might
He walked in the rain and braved the cold,
Crazy they say, but he was bold
He walked alone, not for money, glory or power,
And gave unconditionally with each passing hour
He stood by Austin through thick and thin,
& opened his heart to shelter him in
Although we knew how much that he cared,
He had to shave his beautiful curly hair!
Now, Austin’s song we are able to give,
And with special friends it’s easier to live
Strength and courage to help find an answer,
To ease the pain of our children with cancer
Toby, a gem, as special as can be,
The Navy is lucky, I’m sure they will see!
We will all miss him, day after day,
But we know he must do it, his own way!!
His heart is so big & right on his sleeve,
We must trust in God and just believe.
Believe in his power, and continue to pray,
He watch over him with each passing day.
