2007 PRESS RELEASE:
Green Bay Boy To Walk 150 Miles To Raise Money For 10-Year-Old Leukemia Patient.
Green Bay, WI -- December 04, 2006 --On the morning of Sunday April 15, 2007 at 8:00 Am I will be starting out on a fund-raising walk to hopefully raise $15,000 for a 10-year-old Wrightstown boy who is struggling with Leukemia. The walk will start from my driveway in Allouez and will end 150 miles away at Potowatami lighthouse on Rock Island State Park around Sunday, April 22, 2007. The walk will aid in the awareness of childhood cancers like Leukemia. There are a lot of people in the US that know all about childhood cancers. The walk is my way of trying to reach the others that do not know as much and it also my goal to help people support the children going through life with cancer.
The 10-year-old boy from Wrightstown he is walking for, Austin DeGroot was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 8. I have known him since he was diagnosed. I have seen almost everything he has gone through including trips to Milwaukee for Chemo treatment and in the doctors’ office once a week for spinal taps. I could go on all day about how much he has been through in the past two years but I don’t want you to see what he has gone through but to notice how strong he is and his persistence to be positive and strong. Austin is one of the most inspirational people I have ever met, he is the reason I will be trying so hard to inform everyone about childhood cancer. It is something everyone, especially parents need to know about.
