Update-April 19, 2009
As we sit and think about 2008, it is hard to know where to begin. Toby finished boot camp on Friday, August 1st,2008. His graduation was a very emotional, but proud day for us. We spent Saturday at Navy Pier with him. He flew out of O’hare airport headed for Pensacola, Florida, on Sunday morning, August 3rd. Saying goodbye to him once again was very difficult for us. He attended A-school in Pensacola and graduated in Nov. He was allowed to come home for about 10 days after graduation there. Then another goodbye.We are gradually getting better at that I think, although it is never easy.
Toby is now stationed at Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk Virginia and his ship is the USS George H.W. Bush. This is a brand new ship and was just commissioned in Jan. 2009. The ship is not completely manned at this time.Toby is a plank owner, as he was in the first crew to be assigned to the ship.He just finished a two week assignment on the USS Harry S.Truman, as his ship is still not yet out to sea. He totally loves being on the water. He also enjoys being kept busy. Boredom is a problem for him if he isn’t busy--a trait that he had even as a young boy. Although he loves movies, he has never been one to sit around and watch TV. He enjoys outside activities and has always been able to find something to do and entertain himself.
Toby plans to do his walk for childrens cancer again this year, but due to Navy commitments, we have not set a date or time yet. Please watch your local newspaper for more information and check back soon on the website.
